The Story of “Ribbon in the Sky – Sequoia National Park”

From the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a colorful photograph of the clouds and foothills at Sequoia National Park. It is an amazing experience to be so close to nature and see it come alive. It is like stepping from reality into a painting.

I was a photography novice in 2017 when I decided to take it more seriously. That year, I visited Sequoia National Park for the first time. Despite hours of driving and hiking, I couldn’t find the perfect shot due to the dense forest. Carrying 20 pounds of photography gear at 7000 feet did not help either.

Hoping to get inspired, I took a guided tour and that’s when I noticed a golden glow in the clouds. It resembled a sunset, but it was happening in the afternoon. Although the tour didn’t provide a good opportunity to capture the shot, I kept searching after the tour.

Finally, I found a spot with an unobstructed view of the colorful sky and the haze-covered foothills below. I captured the shot that you see here.

This photo became a milestone for me as I submitted it to a juried art competition. Winning a juror award was a validation of my early efforts as a photographer and encouraged me to continue.
